(Re)Birthin’ a Blog

by

Long ago and far, far away, in the early days of the blogosphere, I had a couple of blogs. I guess there weren’t many friends in the picture because I spent nearly ALL my spare time writing. Matter if fact, I fancied myself a writer more than a painter. A writer of snarky bits (what a great name for a blog!), humorous essays and sometimes things that smacked of deep thoughts–as deep as you can get in 700-1000 words

I even had a couple of novels in the pipeline. One was a silly who dunnit, like if Carl Hiaasen and Janet Evanovich had a literary child who grew up in a place suspiciously like where I live and had a lot of bodies buried around the property. It was a way to legally kill off all the annoying people in my life and make fun of them while doing it–and they didn’t know. It’s been years but I think I need to revisit that one–because it was way too much fun and let’s face it, there are always annoying people to bump off.

The other book was the dark and desperate reflections of a mother with a son serving back to back to back combat deployments in Iraq. Those circumstances will make even the most stable mother bat-shit crazy and yeah, it tipped me over the edge. That one, along with the few paintings I managed to do during those years, will never see the light of day until well after my death when some fancy ass-museum has a 100 year retrospective of my work. The docents will speak in hushed tones and say, “This was during her dark period. She was bat-shit cray-cray, y’know.”

Anyway, between books and multiple blogs I was doing more writing than arting–until the art began selling and I thought damn, I can make a living doing this.

So I focused on developing my work as a painter and went cold turkey on the writing. I always planned to get back into blogging some day but didn’t. I’d sit down at the computer every few months, write a few sentences and when the Dorito bag was empty, well, so was I. That was the extent of it.

Until recently. One day I woke up and decided to do this blog thing again. Intentions became actions and, well–here I am.

It’s amazing what happens when you actually do the work.

So welcome to my blog. Pull up a chair, have a cuppa whatever and enjoy my ramblings. I’ll share new work, stuff about process & technique and always loop back to what’s going on in the world and my life. Because art doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It comes out of who I am–who we are, warts and all. Please, if anything I say hits a nerve, makes you think or maybe laugh, let me know in the comments below. Even better, let your friends know. Because none of us are in this alone.

Thanks for coming along on this ride. Much love.

Hey, welcome to my blog. I'm an artist, writer and sometimes a wise-ass observer of life. Thoughts are my own because really--who else would claim them?
